General Notes: Obituary (Richmond County Journal, Monday, September 7, 1959):

Mrs. Rohleder Died Saturday
Mrs. A.H. Rohleder Jr., 62, died in Memorial Hospital at 7 o'clock Saturday morning, Sept. 5, 1959, from a heart condition. She spent a week in Memorial for a check-up in late November, 1955—and that November 27th was the first Sunday her husband had missed the Ledbetter Bible Class in eight years. She entered Memorial this last time on August 25th, but the skill of her physicians and loving care could not stay the final Summons—and if ever there was a person quite ready spiritually, it was Mrs. Rohleder.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at three o'clock from the First Methodist Church, conducted by her pastor Rev. Willis Stevens, assisted by her former pastor Rev. Lester Tilley now of Smithfield. A hard rain preceded the services but stopped at 2:15 so that at 3 the weather was clear—a shining benediction upon "truly a doorkeeper in the House of the Lord," as Mr. Stevens expressed it.
The choir consisted of five friends—Felton Hall, John Blalock, Perry Covington, Tommy Covington and Robert
Philips. Mrs. Lydia Biggs Love was at the organ. The two hymns were "How Firm a Foundation" and "Lead Kindly Light."
The large Methodist Church was filled. The casket was covered with a pall of 100 red rosebuds, the center of white chrysanthemums, and of course the grave was banked with many wreaths. Burial was in Middle Section of Eastside Cemetery adjacent to the graves of warm friends of the Rohleder family.
The Ledbetter Bible Class attended in a body as an Honorary escort. She was the Class "Mother", loved by every member. The active pall-bearers were members of that Class—Ammie Webb, Walter Covington, Ben Lewis, Robert Meacham, T.C. Hollowell and Jesse Farris.
Mrs. Rohleder was the former Myrtle Primm, born in Mecklenburg county on January 19, 1897, daughter of James A. and Virginia Deaton.
She and her husband married January 21. 1920; and to Rockingham in the 'thirties where Mr. Rohleder for many years was with the W.T. Covington & Co. cotton factors, until his heart condition necessitated his retirement.
Andy and Myrtle Rohleder were the parents of four fine sons. The oldest son Lieutenant Andy Rohleder 3rd, who enlisted May 20, 1942, meet his death when his plane was shot down by Jap gun-fire at Mokisan Hill, Formosa, on October 12, 1944. This brave young pilot is buried in Section C (Grave 38) in our National Cemetery on Hawaii. but a monument is to his memory here in Eastside Cemetery. Andy was in the 18th Bombing Squadron of the Third Fleet Task Force.
Within an area of 100 feet of this Rohleder plot are the graves of four friends of young Andy. These are the Monuments of Private Walter Steel Coving ton of Co. H, 28th Infantry, killed in battle in Belgium Dec. 9, 1944, and buried in Plot D, Row 10, Grave 9 of the Henri Chapelle Cemetery in Belgium. And the Monument to Pfc. Callie Raymond White who died in the Army on Okinawa Jan. 29, 1948, and is buried in Section M. of the National Cemetery on Hawaii. And the Monument to Sgt. Harvey S. Terry Jr., killed in the Battle of the Bulge near Liege Dec. 25, 1944, and whose body was brought home and buried here Nov. 7, 1947. And another young friend still within this 100-foot area is the grave of young Isaac London of the 244th AAF BU who died in the Veterans Hospital January 20, 1947.
The other three sons are Milton Arnold Rohleder married to the former Gladys Conyers, and they have two daughters [sic]; Jack C. Rohleder married to the former Betty Lou McKenzie and they have two daughters and a son; and William Primm Rohleder, a Pfc. now in the Marines at Camp Lejeune and who married Patricial Ann Smith Dec. 24, 1958. Thus it is seen that all four of the Rohleder boys did their duty with Uncle Sam—and one killed in the Jap fighting. And all four boys were Rockingham graduates and members of the athletic teams. Their parents were staunch supporters of these teams—and exceedingly proud of their boys—and reared them in the paths they should go—both very shining examples to four very devoted sons.—I.S.L.

Research Notes: 1900 census lists birth year as 1895

• She had a residence in 1930 in Long Creek, Mecklenburg, North Carolina. 2
