AcaciaThis narrow, vertical tree has long threadlike leaves that give it a weeping effect. The tree grows at a moderate rate to 20 feet tall and spreads to 15 feet wide. The roots do not heave sidewalks. It is remarkably tough and tolerant of drought, heat and poor soil conditions.
Hardy to 18F and may be damaged below that.
Drought tolerant but moderate water helps.
Full sun. Tolerates reflected sun and heat.
Most soils, but provide good drainage.
Some pruning and training. Prune in January.
Litter from leaves and seeds. Can blow over in windy areas, even when staked. Occasional mistletoe infestations.
Sparse showing of creamy-white puffball blooms may appear from October to November.
Long pods turn brown.
Good as a screen in narrow spots, but not where you need to walk underneath. Group in a small grove; silhouette plant. Provides light shade beneath.
Native of Australia. Member of the Fabaceae (Leguminoceae) family.
