Accent

This clumping, evergreen perennial grass is a fast grower, reaching up to 40 feet with a diameter of three inches. Deep green canes sometimes turn a golden hue when older. The plant spreads laterally and sends up taller canes as the clump matures.

Foliage damaged at 20F. New or developing canes may be damaged at 28F.

Moderate to ample.

Part shade to full or reflected sun.

Soil

Tolerant. Prefers improved garden soil. Dislikes alkaline situations.

Maintenance

Do not use herbicides that are selective for grasses as they will kill this plant.

Disadvantages

Very dirty plant. Molts in the spring. Spreads rampantly. Gets too large for most residences.

Fishing poles, flooring. Screening hedge.

Native to China and Taiwan. Member of the Poaceae family.
