This fast-growing rampant vine, self attaches and spreads or sprawls. It will reach 40 feet high and wide so give it space to grow. The wisteria-like trunks produce compound leaves.

Temperature

Tolerant of heat and cold. Deep freeze will kill to ground but new stems grow quickly.

Moderate in summer, occasional in winter.

Part shade, full or reflected sun.

Tolerant.

Periodic.

Disadvantages

Tends to get woody underneath. Spreads rampantly, especially with lots of water. Hard to get rid of.

Bloom

Stunning clusters of orange to red trumpet-shaped flowers appear in midsummer until frost.

Uses

Good for ramada. Large scale effects. Quick summer screen.

Origin

Native of eastern United States. Member of the Bigoniaceae family.

Cultivars

'Madam Galen' has salmon blooms four inches long. 'Flava' is a rare, yellow-flowered variety.
