MyrtleThis small, deciduous tree has a sculptural trunk that turns white with age and peels. New vegetation is bronzy and the fall color is golden, orange or red. They grow at a slow to moderate rate to 15 to 20 feet high, spreading 8 to 12 feet or more.
Hardy to cold. Revels in heat.
Moderate but will tolerate lawns. Best bloom with moderate water. Avoid overhead irrigation.
Tolerates part shade. Prefers full sun, even reflected sun.
Prefers enriched deep soil with good drainage.
Seasonal to periodic. Prune to train as small tree.
Chlorosis in alkaline soils. Hot winds can also cause leafburn. In cool, humid coastal locations, powdery mildew may be a problem so seek resistant plants.

Tiny rounded seed capsules in popcorn-like clusters. Lesser goldfinches like seeds.
