Palazzo del Quirinale

This statue was in a park across the street from the Quirinale, which was commissioned by Pope Gregory XIII as a summer home. When Rome became the capital of Italy, the palace became the residence of the royal family; today, it is the seat of the Presidency of the Republic. (The tour book said admission was free and you needed your passport - wrong on both counts. They want your money and you have to go through a metal detector.)
