Learning Objectives

After completing this course, students will be able to plan worship services
of various styles. To reach this overall objective of the course, other objectives
will also be met. The student will:
- Be able to describe and evaluate a process for planning worship services.
- Be able to justify the choices for the worship services they create.
- Be able to discuss similarities and differences of different denominations'
worship and different styles of worship.
- Be able to describe the church year, themes, and lectionary, and how they
relate to each other.
- Be able to define and describe symbols used in worship.
- Be able to select hymns and tunes based on appropriateness and congregational
knowledge.
- Be able to select special music and visual and dramatic arts as appropriate
for worship.
- Be able to design a method for introducing new hymns to a congregation.
- Be able to compare and contrast different worship services.
- Be able to evaluate services in the Lutheran Book of Worship for various
uses.
